Delware River expansion proves contraversial

The Delaware River dredging project remains controversial as states, including Delaware, and environmental agencies have filed lawsuits accusing the federal government of failing to conduct proper studies on the environmental effects of dredging the Delaware River’s main shipping channel while the real economic benefits of the project remain in doubt as well.

The Delaware River, although named after the state, passes through the territories of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, while its tributaries connect even more US states to the waterway that had been, throughout much of the history of these states, an important trading route and link to the Atlantic.
